The assessment report
Introduction
This report is
concerning the importance of visiting the Castle “Palanok” in town Mukachevo
and outlining its historical meaning for Ukrainians and tourists.
Cultural and
historical significance
This Castle is
regarded as one of the oldest Hungarian Residence in Europe. The exact date of
its appearance on the top of the mountain is unknown, but there is no doubt
that its constructions had taken place before XI century. Consequently, Palace’s
walls went through a great number of exhausted sieges and severe battles. In addition, this Castle is covered with
mysterious legends and myths because it had served as a prison for a long time.
The museum’s
exhibitions
Despite the fact
that the Castle is not always easily accessible, crowds of tourists are
wandering around not only to admire the picturesque views opened from the
towers, but also to investigate the Castle’s exhibitions. Currently there are
four thematic halls available to visit : the first concerns retro postcards and
photos, the second introduces pysankas (an Easter eggs), the third shows
details of everyday life in XIX century and the last is historical museum.
Conclusion
On the basis of the points mentioned above, Palanok is
crucial for Ukraine as one of the most recognizable symbols of cultural
heritage and tourist attraction. Most importantly, it can be used for
educational purposes providing all conditions for absorbing in cultural life of
the Middle-Aged Ukraine.
